Farmers Markets Adelaide’s Central Market

definitely my favorite Farmers Market in Australia.

A great showcase of South Australian produce, and smack bang in the middle of Adelaide. Before you venture out into the regions spend a morning here, talking to the wonderful folk who produce some of the best artisan products you will find.

The Central Market has over 70 stalls and is South Australia’s most visited tourist attraction. The Adelaide Central Market remains the food Mecca for multicultural cuisine and fresh produce. The Central Market trades largely in fruit, vegetables, small goods, and café food and is divided into a colourful array of lanes and broadways. The Central Market today remains “the Heart of Adelaide”.

The official opening of the Adelaide Central Market was on the 22nd January 1870. The Central Market was open on Tuesdays and Saturdays with 50 to 100 produce carts. The market was recorded in history as having sold vegetables, fruit, hay, fish and game meats.

Established in 1869, the Adelaide Central Market has been a thriving hub of food and culture for over 148 years. With over 80 traders under one roof, the Adelaide Central Market is one of the largest under cover market in the Southern Hemisphere, buzzing with life and colour all year round. The Market offers a huge range of fresh food including fruit and vegetables, meat and poultry, seafood, cheeses, bakery, smallgoods and health foods, along with some of Adelaide’s most popular cafes and eateries. With over 8.5 million visitors every year, the Adelaide Central Market remains the food Mecca for multicultural cuisine and fresh produce.
